Great Conversations with getR.E.A.L: Authentic Youth Collaboration with Think of Us

May 21 at 02:00 PM - May 21 at 03:00 PM

What: The getR.E.A.L team is delighted to invite Sixto Cancel the CEO of Think of Us, to continue our 2018 Webinar Series, Great Conversations. Think of Us is a web and mobile life-coaching platform that helps foster youth navigate their transition to adulthood. The platform ensures that youth are aware of all of the steps they have to take to navigate the foster-care system and that they are prepared to live independently after they turn 18 and are on their own. Come hear about the life of Sixto Cancel and how he has used his lived experience to create and innovate for a new generation of youth.

When: May 21, 2018 at 2:00-3:00pm EST

Who: Sixto is the founder and CEO of Think of Us, a Commitment of Action for the Clinton Global Initiative America. Think of Us is dedicated to creating an online library of videos that will coach youth through their experiences in youth serving systems, among other social impact consulting work. The videos will bring together voices of youth in or formerly involved with foster care, social workers, probation officers and even parents who have given up children to foster care.

Sixto's lived experienced in foster care fuels his passion for shifting system policy and practice through the use of technology and data. Sixto co-led the design and execution of the 1st ever White House Foster Care and Technology Hackathon which resulted in new federal regulations, new funding for tech in foster care, six additional hackathons, local technology initiatives, and helped shift the national conversation about foster care and tech. Sixto has participated in over 25 convenings as a panelist, keynote or presenter. Sixto has served as a Young Fellow at Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative since 2010, where he has worked on youth engagement, asset development and permanency. He was also named on the Forbes 30 under 30 Social Entrepreneurs. Sixto describes his social mission as one thing: "to help vulnerable youth become the best person that they can be."
