Strategies and Program Elements


Specific strategies from Exemplary Early Care and Education Programs that build protective factors:

The logic model was developed by first identifying protective factors that were correlated to child abuse and neglect prevention and then identifying program strategies in early care and education settings that build these protective factors. Based on observations and study of exemplary programs in the field, CSSP staff identified several programmatic elements that build protective factors. Finally, a self-assessment tool for programs was developed linked to each of the strategies.

Facilitate friendships and mutual support Strengthen parenting Respond to family crises Link families to services and opportunities Facilitate children's social emotional development Observe and respond to early warning signs of child abuse or neglect Value and support parents Parental resilience Social connections Knowledge of parenting and child development Concrete support in times of need Social and emotional competence of children
