On October 14 and 15, 2003, the Early Childhood Learning Network of Exemplary Programs had its first meeting in Miami, Florida. At that meeting, programs shared program strategies around building protective factors to reduce child abuse and neglect, and discussed staffing and leadership issues and communications and marketing plans. Program directors recommended changes in the national early childhood infrastructure and brainstormed around next steps for developing a national learning network. Exemplary programs were recognized and celebrated at an awards ceremony hosted by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Center for the Study of Social Policy.
