Center for the Study of Social Policy
Our mission is to develop
public policies and practices that strengthen families and
communities to produce equal opportunities and a better future
for all children.
The Center's Work
Our work reflects our mission and core beliefs. Consequently, we seek to influence policies and practices that:
- Emphasize accountability for results;
- Reflect an interdisciplinary and intergovernmental perspective — that is, they include strategies that reach across traditional program categories such as health, social services, education, juvenile justice, housing, workforce development, and take into account changes needed at federal, state and local levels of government;
- Involve a role for both the public and private sectors;
- Rely on full resident and family participation in the design and execution of any plan for change;
- Call for robust forms of community decision-making, through which residents, families, and leaders take responsibility for what happens to children and families in their community; and
- Include multiple approaches to professional and human resource development that strengthen the capacity of local residents and staff in public agencies and community-based service systems to work together to improve results for children and families.
