Senior National Early Childhood and School Readiness and Technical Assistance


Organization Overview

The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP), located in Washington, DC and New York City, is a nonprofit public policy and technical assistance (TA) organization. CSSP believes that even the toughest social problems have solutions, and that families have a right to equal opportunities for improved living conditions and children have a right for an equal opportunity to secure a better future.

Job Overview:

CSSP seeks a senior expert of national stature to develop and manage work that promotes high-quality early childhood education services, and ensures that young children are healthy and prepared to succeed in school. This person also is responsible for developing and managing technical assistance to a varied audience in states and communities that seek to achieve these results. Skills required include the ability to conceptualize project plans and strategies to achieve results and manage to those results; supervise staff and consultants; work with a variety of leaders in a community setting from agency leaders to resident leaders; lead the promotion of new work including funding; and represent the organization in a variety of professional venues, including national foundations, conferences, and meetings of other experts. The job requires a solid experience-based knowledge in the field of early care and early childhood development and extensive travel.

If you are selected for this position, you will work with other highly qualified senior staff to serve as an expert technical assistance resource to outside partners and stakeholders working on diverse early childhood projects and initiatives and write research papers and briefs for potential publication.

What We're Looking For:

We’re looking for someone who has at least 10 years of relevant experience, including an advanced degree; someone who has an established and well-respected reputation in the field; and, someone who has experience working collaboratively in complex external organizations. We seek someone who has a commitment to our values and principles; is results-focused; has good organizational ability; an excellent understanding of public policy; is a good supervisor and mentor of more junior staff; an excellent problem solver; has experience and is comfortable working with collecting, analyzing, and using quantitative data; has excellent written and oral communications strong interpersonal skills. The candidate also must have an ability to train others and provide technical assistance, and have an ability to work effectively with people of differing backgrounds and cultural experiences.

If you are selected for the position, you will have the opportunity to represent CSSP at national meetings and conferences, give speeches upon request, and travel extensively across the country working with many national foundations and other stakeholders, including community residents.
